What is video calibration?
Video calibration brings display devices (TVs, projectors, or computer monitors) up to the high standards set by the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF), an organization dedicated to perfecting the quality of video images for television and film.
Why is video calibration important?
Rarely does a display device leave the factory with a perfect image setting. Manufacturers typically “torch” the adjustments to make their units look more vivid than real life to “wow” you in the store. This can shorten the life of your investment and cause eyestrain when viewed. Video calibration brings the set up to the industry standard and makes viewing an enjoyable experience.
Video calibration is essential to anyone demanding accuracy for hours of comfortable viewing. Critical for doctors, graphic artists, software developers—and yes—even us movie buffs! After professional calibration by UltraMedia, the colors displayed by the set will be the same colors originally recorded by the camera.
A real-life analysis: The next time you are at a sports bar or restaurant with a video wall (side-by-side TV sets or plasma screens), take time to compare the differences between the units. Almost always, the image quality of the units will appear dramatically different from one another. If the units had been professionally calibrated, all of the units would display a uniform, high-quality image.
How will my TV look after it is calibrated?
The depth and detail will appear wonderfully 3-dimensional. You will easily discern individual hairs and strands of fabric in the images (wrinkles too!). You’ll see incredible detail in the shadows and the bright areas will not be washed out. Text will be legible, with no colored outlines. The colors will be natural—not cartoon-like. In short, the set will do exactly what it was designed to do: reproduce the image that was recorded.
How do I get my set calibrated?
Give UltraMedia a call. This is much more extensive work than you can perform with your hand-held remote and a calibration DVD. We use $10,000 worth of test equipment (which the manufacturer calibrates for us annually) and a laptop computer to adjust the set to the ISF standard. This typically takes a few hours. We will provide you with full documentation of our work, including the condition of the set prior to calibration, the settings after calibration, and any issues we find that may require the attention of a service technician.
